COVID Lockdown Announcement ACT
At a media conference earlier today, it was announced that the ACT would commence a seven-day COVID lockdown from 5.00 pm today. The lockdown will remain in place until 5.00 pm Thursday 19 August 2021.
People in the ACT can only leave their homes for the following essential reasons:
- To shop for essentials like groceries and medicine and supplies that are essential for personal needs or for vulnerable people
- To obtain essential health care, including to undertake a COVID-19 test or receive a scheduled COVID-19 vaccination
- To exercise outdoors for no more than one hour per day, with one other person, or your household group
- To provide essential caregiving services
- To undertake essential work

ACWA notes that commercial cleaners and businesses providing urgent repair and maintenance services are listed as services permitted to stay open. However, car wash operators in the ACT should check the website and determine what action they should take. If in doubt, we encourage you to seek legal advice.
Unlike lockdowns in other parts of east coast Australia, this lockdown is based on a single positive case being discovered in the territory. We trust the quick and decisive action taken by the ACT Government ensures the announced one-week lockdown remains a one-week lockdown.

New South Wales Changes
Three new local government areas have been added to the declared areas list. These include Bayside, Burwood and Strathfield and are effective from 5 pm today.
Newcastle and Hunter Area Lockdown Extension
It was announced at this morning’s media conference that the lockdown of the Newcastle and Hunter area would be extended for an additional week until 12.01 am on 20 August 2021.
Please also note the Dubbo and Far North Areas entered lockdown on 11 August 2021.

Queensland
Lockdown restrictions in Cairns and Yarrabah ended yesterday, and the remaining restrictions are now the same as those for Southe East Queensland.
